Since the relaunch of the Migrant Protection Protocal (MPP), the first two migrants in the US have now been returned to Mexico on December 8, 2021 while they await their US immigration hearings. The MPP is a policy started during the Trump era, which Biden had tried to end, but a federal judge had ordered it was reinstated and has now begun its launch. The MPP requires asylum seekers to wait in Mexico while their immigration hearings are scheduled.
